1. Ichibi no Shukaku

 

According to Madara Uchiha, the One-Tail first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. Citizens of Sunagakure believed that "Shukaku", as the One-Tail came to be called, was a living ghost (生霊, ikiryō) of a corrupted Suna priest, and was originally sealed inside a tea kettle.

Shukaku had two jinchūriki in the past, one of which inspired the Third Kazekage to create the Iron Sand technique. Shukaku was eventually removed from their bodies, resulting in their deaths. When Karura became pregnant with Gaara, her husband, the Fourth Kazekage, ordered Chiyo to seal Shukaku into Gaara during his birth. Before Karura died as a sacrifice for the sealing process, she cursed all the people of Suna, including her husband, for what they had done and hoped that Gaara would avenge her death.

2. Nibi no Bakeneko

 According to Madara Uchiha, the Two-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. Like the One-Tailed Shukaku, many people believed that the Two-Tails was once a human that turned into a living ghost (生霊, ikiryō).Kumogakure and was sealed within Yugito Nii when she was two years old. She was placed into a detestable training program in order to learn to control the Two-Tails' power. In the anime, Yugito agreed to have Nekobaa collect a paw print of the Two-Tails for the Paw Encyclopedia. 

In a cavern behind the Falls of Truth, where jinchūriki learn to control their tailed beasts, there are wall murals of the Two-Tails as well as the Eight-Tailed Giant Ox, which indicates how long the beasts were associated with the Land of Lightning.

3. Sanbi no Kyodaigame

 According to Madara Uchiha, the Three-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts.

At some point in the past, the Three-Tails fell into the possession of Kirigakure and was sealed within Yagura, the Fourth Mizukage. It was later extracted from its host for some reason, and escaped into the wild. Because it did not have a jinchūriki, it was not intelligent enough to effectively utilize its great strength, instead being reduced to animal instincts.

According to Tsunade, the Three-Tails disappeared after a great war.

4. Yonbi no Saru

According to Madara Uchiha, the Four-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. The Four-Tails eventually fell into the possession of Iwagakure and was sealed into Rōshi at a young age. 

5. Gobi no Irukauma

 

was sealed into Han.  According to Madara Uchiha, the Five-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. The Five-Tails eventually fell into the possession of Iwagakure and was sealed into Han.

6. Rokubi no Namekuji

According to Madara Uchiha, the Six-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts.^[1][2] The Six-Tails eventually fell into the possession of Kirigakure and was sealed into Utakata.

According to the anime, at some point before his appearance, Utakata's master, Harusame, tried and failed to remove the Six-Tails from within Utakata to save his student from being a living weapon for his village. Utakata, however, having not heard what his master had said to him, later came under the assumption after the incident that his master had tried to kill him. This failed removal resulted in Utakata transforming into the Six-Tails and killing Harusame.

7. Nanabi no Kabutmushi

According to Madara Uchiha, the Seven-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. The Seven-Tails eventually fell into the possession of Takigakure and was sealed into Fū, but was captured and extracted by Akatsuki. 

8. Hachibi no Kyogyu

                                                According to Madara Uchiha, the Eight-Tails came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. The Eight-Tails eventually fell into the possession of Kumogakure.

However, its ferocity was so great, none of its former jinchūriki could control it. They would lose control and the Eight-Tails would go on a rampage and destroy the village, requiring the Third Raikage to form a special coalition to subdue it, extract it from its previous jinchūriki, and sealed it within a special pot. Many villagers lost their lives during these episodes and the Eight-Tails lost one of its four horns to a after the said horn pierced Motoi's father. It was ultimately sealed within Killer Bee, who was five at the time, through the Iron Armor Seal. Bee would go on to tame and control the Eight-Tails through rigorous training within the Falls of Truth.

 9. Kyuubi no Yoko

 According to Madara Uchiha, the Nine-Tails first came into being in the waning days of the Sage of the Six Paths' life; to prevent the Ten-Tailed Beast's resurgence, the Sage split up its chakra and used Izanagi to create nine separate, monstrous constructs of living chakra, which would become known as the tailed beasts. Over the centuries, the Nine-Tails gained a reputation as an age-old natural disaster, appearing suddenly out of nowhere to attack areas wherever human malice had collected and festered.

Many decades ago, when Madara defected from Konoha, he used his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan to take control of the Nine-Tails, and used it to help him fight against Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage, to exact his revenge. The battle was so great that it tore the earth apart and created the Valley of the End. Despite being in control of the Nine-Tails' power, Madara was defeated and was believed to have died.After the battle, Hashirama's wife, MitoUzumaki clan, sealed the Nine-Tails within herself in order to keep the threat that it posed contained, becoming its first jinchūriki. Towards the end of her life, Mito passed on this status and responsibility to Kushina Uzumaki, who later became the wife of Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage.

Twelve years before the start of the series, after the end of the Third Great Shinobi World War, the seal containing the Nine-Tails within Kushina weakened as she became pregnant and gave birth to Naruto. Despite keeping her childbirth a secret, Madara discovered their location, killed their escorts, broke the seal, and seized control of the Nine-Tails once again.summoned the Nine-Tails into Konoha, and ordered it to destroy the village. Since Kushina survived the extraction, Madara tried to have the Nine-Tails kill her, but Minato arrived in time to save Kushina and brought her to safety with Naruto. After that, Madara

During the attack, the Nine-Tails was eventually released from Madara's control when Minato placed a contract seal on him, but not before it had decimated the shinobi forces that attempted to repel it. Before the Nine-Tails could annihilate Konoha, Minato summoned Gamabunta onto its back, and later teleported it away from the village to Kushina and Naruto's location, while letting its Tailed Beast Ball detonate away from anyone. Soon afterwards, Kushina used her chakra chains to subdue the beast, planning to seal it back inside her before she dies. Minato, knowing that the Nine-Tails would return without a host and a threat Madara still was to the village, came up with a different plan to give Konoha the means to combat Madara if he should ever attack the village again.

Using the Dead Demon Consuming Seal, Minato sealed the Nine-Tails' Yin chakra within himself before preparing to seal the beast, along with its Yang chakra, within Naruto. The Nine-Tails realized Minato's intent and took the chance to attack Naruto when Kushina was weakened. However, its attack was unsuccessful as both Minato and Kushina used their bodies to shield their child, piercing them instead. Before the sealing was complete, the Nine-Tails used its last moment of freedom to curse the pair.

In the anime, it was revealed that the Nine-Tails had left behind large amounts of its chakra during the attack. Kazuma collected and sealed the chakra within his own son, Sora, hoping to make use of its power for his own agenda.

10. Jyuubi

Centuries before the founding of the hidden villages, the Sage of the Six Pathssealed it within his own body, becoming what could be considered the first jinchūriki. However, this offered merely a temporary solution to the menace; in the event of his death, the seal would dissolve and the Ten-Tails would once again be unleashed upon the world. Knowing this, the Sage searched for a more permanent solution. Ultimately, the Sage succeeded by using the jutsu Izanagi to divide the Ten-Tails' chakra into the nine monstrous entities that would later become known as "tailed beasts", scattering them throughout the world. As a final precaution, using Chibaku Tensei, the Sage entombed the physical remains of the Ten-Tails within a colossal stone prison and hurled it into the heavens, creating the moon.
